DAY 2 – MEXICO CITY – FIFTH APPARITION AND TEOTIHUACÁN ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE
Breakfast. Departure to the place where the “Miracle of the Roses” took place, in the Church of Santiago Tlatelolco, built after the conquest. The victors chose this site where the Mexica resisted military attacks for more than 80 days. The main mission of the missionaries was to educate the indigenous people, and in 1536 they founded the Colegio de la Santa Cruz in Tlatelolco.
In 1531, it was here that Saint Juan Diego presented himself before Friar Juan de Zumárraga to deliver the message from the Virgin of Guadalupe and show him his ayate filled with roses that had just bloomed at the top of the hill.
We will then continue to the town of Tulpetlac, near the municipality of Ecatepec, to visit the Sanctuary of the Fifth Apparition of the Blessed Virgin to Juan Bernardino (Saint Juan Diego’s uncle), where she healed him from the illnesses that had brought him to the brink of death. In this apparition, she asked to be known as the “Ever Virgin Holy Mary of Guadalupe.”
We proceed to the town of San Juan Teotihuacán for LUNCH, followed by a visit to the impressive Teotihuacán Archaeological Site, whose name means “City of the Gods.” You will visit the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, the Quetzal-Butterfly Palace, and the Temple of the Feathered Serpent (Quetzalcóatl), in addition to walking along the Avenue of the Dead. Visit an obsidian workshop for a maguey demonstration.
Evening return to your hotel. Dinner at the hotel and overnight stay.

We will continue to the Zócalo for LUNCH and a visit to the Cathedral. Return to the hotel.
